We used knotty cedar channel rustic siding, which is also referred to as channel lap siding. It adds a rustic look to the home and is extremely popular because it is fairly easy to install and provides excellent weather protection. It also has qualities that allow it to hold up well to a variety of seasons, from hot summers to frigid winters.
On the roof we used Timberline HDZ shingles in a barkwood color, which matches well with the wood siding. The shingles have a 25-year warranty against blue-green algae discoloration. They are also backed by a 15-year limited wind warranty with no maximum wind speed limitation. We also replaced the gutters with a dark brown gutter system, also perfectly meshing with the roof and siding.
